Producers: Dwain Antrobus and John King.

This album had on some corking hits from Crop Over 2k7. John King is a veteran in the business (used to be known as Johnny My Boy to show you how long) and is not only a wonderful vocalist but doing great work as a producer on this one. Dwain Antrobus (Dwaingerous Productions...I love that!) is the keyboardist in Xtatik and co-produced Straight From Bim
with John.

The compilation features vocals from John King, Seth Billy (an up and coming straight up star from Barbados), Patrice Roberts BIG ROCK tune called Wukkin Up, Machel Montano, Mr. Dale,Toni Bailey and more....

Great album - check it!

monster

Having just returned from Barbados I was lucky enough to pick up some tunes,
and one of them is the already completed Monsta Piece compilation.

Producer Peter Coppin is back to his very best after a couple of trying years
hence the name of the album and he boasts quite an impressive array of
international artists on this album. Machel, Bunji, TOK and Anthony B team up with homegrown talent such as Edwin Yearwood, Lil Rick, Lorenzo, Khiomal Nurse and Mikey and that is not naming everybody on the album.

The album has a variety of fast and mid tempo tunes, the majority of which are getting major airplay already in Barbados. There is an artist that I would like to introduce you to, his name is Gregory Ayeun resident in Barbados but originally
from Trinidad and his voice is sweet like sugar. His groovy soca is already getting
a lot of love and the ladies seem to love him when he is on stage. Keep an eye out
for him I think he is going to be big.

This album is not yet released but will be in the next couple of weeks. It is definitely The Return of the Monster and an album that you have in your collection if you like soca music.

trini review

Since there are so many piping hot soca albums available, it was difficult to choose one to review. I decided to review this one because Trini Bashment is also a radio station in Trinidad & Tobago that was started by soca legend Iwer George (current Trinidad Soca Monarch). It was also Trinidad's first 100% Soca Music station!

So - the album. Its choc-a-block full of hits (16 tracks!) and is a compilation that lets you get a taste of many different artists, vocals and rhythms, and a real sense of what was hot for the Carnival season.

Some highlights are as follows:

1. Olatunji "Get Wild". This song was very popular over the season - and musically has some components in it that will drive you...er wild!

2. Mr. Slaughter "D Stage". Slaughter was a huge presence in 2K7 and this is a powerful, creative and relevant number - discussing the recent decision to eliminate the stage in the Savannah as part of the Carnival Mas Band route.

3. Naya & Destra "Las Lap". This is one of my favourites of the year from the First Lady of Soca in Trinidad and Naya George. It is vibes can't done! Energy, hysteria, hard wine....while encouraging revellers to bring the energy up like its the "las lap" (last few hours of Carnival).

4. Nadia Batson "Caribbean Girl". Nadia has been popular for a long time in Soca circles, but her visibility has increased substantially since performing and touring with Kes The Band. This tune is an instant classic. Straight up.

5. Iwer George "Fete After Fete". The Soca Monarch tune 2K7 from 'the fada in the business'. What more you want?

6. Nneka "Don't Let Me Go". Nice slow tempo soca tune - a Soca lovers' rock niceness.
